Municipal Works is responsible for a multitude of public services in the City of Niagara Falls. From the construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of our local infrastructure including roads, sewers, watermains, sidewalks, street lights to "Waste Management" programs, Municipal Works employees constitute a highly visible and familiar presence in the lives of the citizens of Niagara Falls.
Additionally, the responsibility for monitoring, inspecting and licensing building activities also lies with Municipal Works.
The City of Niagara Falls is committed to the implementation of a Weeping Tile Removal Assistance Program (WRAP) to help alleviate wet weather back-ups in the sanitary sewer system and basement flooding, as well as reducing sewage over-flows
into the natural environment. You can complete the Program Application online and then print it out.
The City has passed By-law No. 2010-61 to prohibit the connection of weeping tile, foundation drains, to the sanitary or combined sewer system.
Municipal Works compiles a booklet of the Capital works projects for the year and it is available here: Capital Projects PDF.
You can also view the Interative Map of the Capital Projects.
During heavy rain events the City of Niagara Falls will initiate pumping from sanitary systems to prevent basement flooding.
The City’s efforts to separate storm water from sewage flows has been impressive over the past five years however there are many more areas within the City that are at risk. Staff has been working with the Ministry of Environment to strike a proper balance between the addition of flows from new development and the reduction of overflows to the natural environment during wet weather events.
To view any ongoing storm events, please visit the Public Notices section of our website.
The Risk Management Team processes all personal and property claims against the City. Please go to the "How to Submit a Claim to the City" for further information.
