Canada Day 2010

Celebrate Canada Day in Niagara Falls, Ontario

Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.


10:00 a.m. Niagara Falls Canada Day Parade

The Parade begins at the corner of Morrison Street & Drummond Road and travels west on Morrison Street and ends at Optimist Park, located at Morrison Street and Dorchester Road.


11:30 a.m. Opening Ceremonies at Optimist Park

Follow the Parade into Optimist Park and Join in the fun!
Celebrate your national pride, explore the many displays and enjoy the musical entertainment all day long "Niagara Falls" style!


Youth Essay & Poetry Contest: "What Canada Means To Me"

The Contest is open to students enrolled at any Niagara Falls school.

Two Categories: (1) Grades 4, 5, & 6
(2) Grades 7 & 8

Prizes will be awarded to the top three selections in each category.

Winners will receive special recognition at the Niagara Falls Canada Day Celebration on July 1, 2010.

Regulations:

  1. There are two contests: Essay Contest and Poetry Contest
  2. Students MUST be enrolled in a school in Niagara Falls, Ontario
  3. There are two age categories: Grades 4-6 and Grades 7-8
  4. Entries will be judged on originality of thought, expression, presentation, grammar, spelling & Canadian content
  5. All entries must be previously unpublished and must be your own work
  6. Essay entries MUST not exceed 300 words
  7. Poetry entries MUST not exceed 30 lines
  8. Each submission MUST include the writer’s name, address, telephone number, age, name of school and name of teacher on the back of the entry and state whether you are entering the Essay Contest or Poetry Contest
  9. The Canada Day Committee reserves the right to display the entries at the Niagara Falls Canada Day Celebration and on the Niagara Falls Public Library Poetry Website
  10. Winners will be presented their prizes at the Niagara Falls Canada Day Celebration at Optimist Park on July 1
  11. Entries Must be received NO Later than Tuesday, June 1, 2010 to any of the following locations or emailed to: mseymour@niagarafalls.ca or lalbanese@niagarafalls.ca
