Digital Photography:
Camera Club is an opportunity to utilize the opinions and expertise of other digital camera owners. 1st Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm at the Coronation Centre. A $0.55 drop in fee applies.
Computer Club:
The Computer Club meets each Wednesday from 12:00 until 1:30 pm. The first hour is spent in discussion - sharing & solving problems, or contributing new ideas & websites. During the second hour, the Computers are available for demonstrations & practice. The aim of the Club is to help its members become Computer literate without becoming intimidated. In order to integrate with other activities at the Centre, some of the Club members meet in the Lunch Room before the meetings, others get together to attend various social activities going on at the Centre. Members of the Club keep in touch by Email between meetings. A $0.55 cent drop in fee applies.
Creative Arts
Friendship Group:
Every Monday morning in the New Auditorium at 9:30 am you can find these ladies busy doing crafts and offering a friendly welcome to any newcomers. If you like to knit, sew, crochet, quilt or make bazaar items, then this might be the place for you at the Coronation Centre “Friendship Club”. Drop off your unwanted pennies for the Sleeping Children Around the World fund.

Watercolours:
Come and join us Monday at 1:30 pm for an enjoyable afternoon learning the art of ‘water colours’. Meet our patient instructors Hilda Corkum and Alec Greaves. A half hour demonstration by the instructors will teach you the use of brushes, colours and perspectives. Learn by doing. The group also arranges paint outs to utilize your skills and paint in a natural environment. Beginners welcome in September and January. The cost is $2.15 / class.
Library:
Our library is open daily from 8:30 am-4:30 pm. We have many books, the collection includes romance novels, fiction and hardcover’s arranged by author last name. Relax in one of our big comfortable chairs, take a book home with you or sign-out a video from our video lending library at the front desk. Also, help yourself to any of the informational pamphlets provided on a range of senior topics.
Card Games
Bridge Club:
The Golden Hour Bridge Club meets on Thursdays at 1:00pm. They play four hands of bridge at each table and the two partners with the higher score move to the next table and the partners split up. They play six rounds and follow this with tea, coffee and cookies. To join the club you must be a member of the Coronation 50 Plus Recreation Centre. The Golden Bridge Club membership is $5.00 per year and $2.00 per session: this includes the $0.55 cent drop in fee to the Centre.
Euchure:
What’s Trump Euchre is a progressive card game that meets in the main auditorium on Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1:00 pm to approximately 3:30 pm. Admission is $3.00 to play. There are prizes for the top two total scores, a secret score prize, a prize for most lone hands and a prize for any couple who gain a score of 16 or more in a game. Margaret and Pam would be happy to see you come out and join the fun.
Variety Cards:
On Tuesday afternoons Variety cards is held in the Blue Room at 1:00 pm. They play a variety of card games from Euchre, and Hearts, Bridge to Dirty Dozen. A $0.55 drop in fee applies.
Drop In Bridge:
Mondays at 1:00pm drop in and play bridge with other members who love the game. A $0.55 fee applies.
Cribbage
Every Friday at 1:00 pm join us for a game of organized Cribbage at the Coronation Centre. A $2.00 drop in fee applies. Drop in Cribbage June, July & August a $0.55 fee applies.
Games
Pool Room:
The pool room is open daily from 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Drop in fee of $0.55 cents paid at the front desk for a game.
Games:
Join us for a game of scrabble, chess, or a variety of other games located in the sunroom. A drop in fee of $0.55 cents paid at the front desk.
Darts:
Darts are played Thursdays at 1:30 pm. You are most welcome to join for league play which starts Thursday, September 16th. $0.55 Cent drop in fee. (Fun Darts June, July & August)
Computer Club:
The Computer Lab has four computers all internet ready with Windows XP as the operating system. Members can use the lab for a $0.55 drop in fee.
Shuffleboard:
This is floor shuffleboard and is offered on a Thursday at 9:30 am and Mondays at 2:30pm in the lower auditorium. Shuffleboard is a sport of skill and strategy and requires little physical strength. The main elements of a winning plan are: clearing the board, blocking and hiding and kitchen play when necessary. It’s great fun so why not join us. $0.55 Cent drop in fee.
Dance Programs
Line Dancing:
Line Dancing is a great physical exercise and excellent mental exercise that is a lot of fun. We stay with beginner level dances so we are not doing a lot of ‘jumping’ or ‘hip hopping’. Beginners are always welcome and you will find we have a very friendly group. If you enjoy moving to music come out and give line dancing a try. You don’t need a partner so you can get up and dance whenever you want to. Classes are $2.15 for a one hour class.
Ballroom Line Dance:
Impress your family and friends the next time you go out for a night on the town by learning the Rumba, Cha Cha, Tango and Waltz. No partner necessary, just $4.00 a class. (Sept - May)
Clogging:
Anyone from 2 to 92 can do it. If you line dance you can clog. Clogging is a mixture of step and tap dancing with roots in the Appalachian step dancing; to much fun to be a workout. Classes are held Wednesdays at 1:00pm a $2.15 fee applies.
Music Programs
The 'J' Choir
The “J” Choir is a group of energetic people who are 50 and older who sing four-part harmony for their enjoyment and to entertain others. The “J” Choir has been singing for over 30 years and have had many capable directors. Dianne Williams is the present director/pianist who is well experienced. Every Thursday they meet in the main Auditorium form 9:15 to 11:15 am, with a coffee break. There is a nominal membership fee to help cover expenses. You will have no trouble locating them, just follow the singing. Practice begins early September and finishes late June.
Music Circle:
This musical group led by John Glennie with assistance from group members, is less formal than a choir and meets every Tuesday afternoon at 1:30pm for two hour practice. The group learns, sings and plays a monthly one hour set of songs including group songs and solos. Each month they present their program at Cavendish Manor (3rd Friday at 2pm) and other venues around the area. We sing songs from a wide variety of musical styles and times. If you like to sing or play a musical instrument come out and share your talents. A $0.55 drop in fee applies.
Fitness Classes
Get Fit Level 1:
An energetic fitness class which will get you moving. Low impact marching, moving, increase your stamina, muscle toning with various equipment. Perfect for people who enjoy walking. Gentle stretching to improve flexibility carried out on mats
This class is perfect if you enjoy walking and are ready to do a little bit more. $2.50 per class.
Get Fit Level 2:
After participating in level 1 and consulting with the instructor, participants may try working at a higher intensity level. Higher intensity cardiovascular workout. Burn calories and get heart beating. May include step aerobic component. Tone all major muscles by using weights and other equipment. Work muscles in abdominal and lower back region. Finish with stretching to complete workout $2.50 per class.
Flex Fit
A class to enhance flexibility, stretching and relaxation through exercise. Flex Fit is a great tension reducer at the end of the day in addition to renewing yourself with positive energy instilling a calmness of mind and body. The movements are designed to increase your range of motion , improve posture, flexibility and release tension. $2.50 per class
Men's Only Fitness:
Men’s cardio is held at both the Coronation Centre and at MacBain. You work at your own pace and we don’t use fancy footwork or get out of breath fast. You will work on balance exercises as well as strength training to help improve your daily routine, which could include; golfing, taking out the garbage, grocery shopping, yard work or whatever your day may include. We finish with stretches done on mats. $2.50 per class
Gentle Fit:
A great place to start your fitness routine especially if haven’t worked out in a while or ever! Maybe you have recently had heart problems, a hip replacement, or perhaps arthritis, this class is perfect to get you started. This is a friendly gentle toe tapping workout with most exercises carried out from a chair. This class will help with balance, build strength and endurance through muscle toning with light weights and exercises to help with flexibility, especially the shoulder and neck area. We finish the class with some light stretching to improve joint range of motion. with stretches and gentle breathing. $2.50 per class
Sculpt & Tone:
Are you worried about bone and/or muscle loss? Want to speed up your metabolism and increase calorie burn? Resistance training. Build functional strength. Tone and define muscles. Increase your metabolism and calorie burning ability $3.50 per class.
Get Fit Combined Class:
You will benefit from this class if you are accustomed to the level one or level two Get Fit classes. The combined class is a moderate fitness class, weight training and mat work are included in the class. You can take it to a level you are comfortable with. $2.50 per class.
Total Body Circuits:
This challenging 1.5 hour class incorporates circuits to build strength and endurance in all your major muscles groups, Class format includes a group warm-up, followed by an aerobic portion, then individual circuits which focus on resistance, balance and core work ending with a cool down. This class requires pre-registration. Please check the newsletter for registration dates.
Core Fit:
This class will concentrate on the muscles of the core. Strong back and abdominal muscles will help support the spine and help prevent low back pain. It will also improve posture and balance through the use of equipment including stability ball, dyna discs, foam rollers, wobble boards and resistance bands. $3.50 per class
Aqua Fitness:
Work out safely and effectively in the water. Increase strength and flexibility. Ideal for hip and knee replacements and arthritis. Pre-registration at the Coronation Centre & payment required prior to each session. Bring to class: bathing suit, towel, strongly suggest water shoes to be worn in the pool and a lock for belongings.
Deep Water Aqua Fitness
A low impact, high intensity class to get you moving in the water. Participants wear flotation belts and are in the deep end for the entire 45 minutes class. Workout intensity is equivalent to running 11km/hour. Perquisites include: surface support 45 seconds, swim front crawl at least 10 meters, swim 25 meters continuously. This class requires pre-registration and payment in full before beginning the session.
Fitness Programs
Tai Chi:
Tai Chi is based on repetition of slow, gentle continuous stretching movements that incorporate the whole body. Increase your strength, circulation, balance and mental focus in this class.
Beginners welcome in September and February to the Wednesday and Friday morning classes.
$12.00 per month for 2 classes per week. Classes also available on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Yoga:
There are three basic parts to the Yoga program. Each session begins and ends with a relaxation exercise where you learn to progressively relax every muscle in the body. The next step is a series of simple exercises designed to bring movement to every joint in the skeletal system. Finally, you work on breathing, learning to breathe diaphragmatically. Yoga is a commitment to look after yourself better both mentally and physically. Pre-registration and payment is required before beginning session.
Zumba:
The Zumba workout provides fitness benefits because its routines feature interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training, which are intended to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat. Music is the key ingredient to classes, created with specific beats and tempo changes. Pre-registration and payment is required before beginning session.
Wellness Programs
Wellness Centre:
The Wellness Centre offers both cardio and strength training equipment with an elliptical machine, treadmills, exercise ball, adjustable bench, free weights and a multi station weight machine to work all your major muscle groups. To help you pass the time a flat screen TV is mounted on the wall as you exercise. A mandatory equipment orientation is required before use of the room for your interest and safety. A drop-in fee of $0.80cents per use is charged.
Personal Fitness Assessments & Work Out Programs:
The Wellness Centre offers a variety of leading edge fitness and lifestyle modification programs for Coronation members. We can provide fitness instruction, assessments and devise a personal fitness program tailored to meet your needs for a $20.00 fee. All assessments and programs must be booked at the office along with payment. Please bring your completed Par-Q form to your appointment. The Functional Fitness Assessment involves the following: Resting Heart Rate, Balance, Cardiovascular Endurance, Blood Pressure, Flexibility and a Height and Weight Analysis (B.M.I)
Coronation Goalsetters:
The Coronation Centre has a weight loss club that meets weekly to provide you with information, motivation and fellowship in attaining and maintaining your weight loss goals. Join us Friday mornings in the Blue Room, we start our weigh in at 10:45am and follow with a meeting at 11:00am. Please feel free to join us, we set goals and aim to achieve them by working together to take off the extra pounds. Weekly meetings are $2.00.
Meds Check:
A free meds check Monday 9:00 -10:00 am and Thursday 1:00 - 2:00 pm in the Health Room, no appointment needed. Bring your OHIP card and your medications. MedsCheck is an opportunity to find out how your prescriptions, over the counter and alternative meds may be affecting you.
Therapeutic Touch:
An energy field modality that is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices. This is accomplished by the practitioner placing their hands over the client as a focus to facilitate the natural healing process. By appointment on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month Sept - May in the blue room 1:30-3:30pm. $2.15/session.
Monthly Social Events
Dinner & A Movie:
Fourth Tuesday of the month. Big Screen (6ft x 6ft) Home style food catered by “My Country Delicatessen” is served at 5:00 pm followed by the movie choice of the month. Previous menus have included, Cabbage Rolls, Lasagna, Pork Tenderloin, dessert, tea and coffee is included. The last day to purchase tickets is the Friday prior to the event. Price: $9.75 member & $11.00 non-member includes HST
Bingo & Lunch:M
Join us on the second Tuesday of the month at 11:30 am. Tickets just $4.00 for members and $5.00 for non members includes homemade soup and sandwich lunch and one bingo card good for all games. Additional cards just $0.50 cents each. The last day for ticket sales is the Friday prior to the event.
