Historical Notes
The Patterson Funeral Home was once the residence of Alanson Ross, who emigrated from Pennsylvania in the 1820's. He began making carriages in partnership with John Misener and later established his own business in 1826 behind his home "Rossleigh". He accumulated a large tract of land behind his home which was divided up into building lots, called the Ross Plan, after his death.
Architectural Notes
This house displays characteristics of the Neoclassical style (c.1810-1830) with its low pitched gable roof and pair of end chimneys. It also has certain elements of the Classical Revival style (c.1830-1860) with its projecting central portion and its roof pediment that hints of a temple like facade. The central chimney is located to the rear of the building and may be a later addition. This building has undergone a series of renovations. The window openings have been enlarged and the number of bays in the second storey have been reduced from 7 to 4.
