Open Government is a political platform promoting the idea of a government administration that is opened at all levels allowing for effective public scrutiny, and the exchange of ideas and information.

The City of Niagara Falls, Canada, is committed to improving citizen services, providing transparency and showing government accountability, in the most innovative and cost-effective ways possible, therefore supporting the open government philosophy.

The City’s newest initiative, pioneered by GIS Services, is to provide Open Data on-line. The website design now supports the publication and distribution of public information in both viewable and downloadable formats.

In addition, a new Open Data Catalogue has been created which focuses on providing spatial data that can be freely used by our customers. This catalogue will initially provide basic information however it is our intent to expand this catalogue as we move forward with our Open Data initiative.

For more information about the Open Data initiative, feel free to refer to our FAQ section as well as our Terms and Conditions.
