Niagara Falls, ON, August 15, 2016 - The City of Niagara Falls is excited to announce the completion of Phase 1 of Lundy’s Lane Battlefield Park. An opening ceremony will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to come out to celebrate and explore this beautiful and significant park.
The north portion of the battlefield has been enhanced to include improved pathways, interpretive signage and a rejuvenation of the area previously known as Shangri-La by former resident Ruth Redmond. The property is an Ontario Heritage Trust Easement property and is adjacent to the National Historic Site of Lundy’s Lane Battlefield.
The park improvements were part of the first of three potential phases outlined in the Battlefield Master Plan. The original Masterplan received funding through Heritage Canada – Building Communities Through Arts & Heritage Fund. Capital Costs for the phase 1 improvements were funded by the City of Niagara Falls.
The three potential phases are intended to provide greater exposure to the Battle of Lundy’s Lane area, create a destination for cultural tourism and expose residents to Niagara Falls to the history of our community.
The refreshed park is a beautiful and important historic destination for tourists and community members alike. Please join us to experience it for yourself.
